Made for the store aisle

Each calculator rounds up to whole tiles, boxes, bags and cans, and shows the waste allowance it adds, so you buy once and don't run out halfway through the job.

Switch between US units (feet, pounds, gallons) and metric (meters, kilograms, liters) at any time. Japanese tsubo and jo and Korean pyeong are supported too.

Where the numbers come from

Consumption figures come from manufacturer data sheets, such as Laticrete and Custom Building Products for thinset, Mapei's grout formula and paint coverage published by Benjamin Moore and Dulux. Every calculator lists its sources, and every number can be changed to match the product you buy.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate how much tile I need?

Multiply the room's length by its width to get the floor area, add 10% for cuts and breakage (15% for diagonal layouts) and divide by the area of one tile. The tile calculator does this and also counts boxes.

How much paint do I need for a room?

A 12 × 12 ft room with 8 ft ceilings has about 350 sq ft of wall after subtracting a door and a window. Two coats at 400 sq ft per gallon need about 2 gallons. The paint calculator works it out for any room.

Do the calculators work in square meters?

Yes. Every calculator has a switch between US units and metric, and you can type feet and inches like 12'6".

Do I need to sign up or install anything?

No. The calculators run in your browser, work offline after the first visit and don't send your data anywhere.
